People and the Harbour
H.C. Andersen is waiting. The cattle are waiting. Travelers are getting ready to cross “Lillebælt” between Funen and Jutland. The historic harbour is full of activity and life. People are moving. Goods are moving. Assens harbour was one of the most important crossing points in Denmark up until 1864, when Denmark lost Southern Jutland to Prussia. The exhibition will immerse you in the stories of the changing life of the harbour. The scene is set in the historic customs chamber, where duties where paid when goods arrived and left the market town.
