Assens at Full Speed
This year, Assens is the starting point for the “Around Funen” race for historic ships. This means extra activity at the harbor and in town, with several days of events on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, July 18, 19, and 20.
On Saturday, July 18, the festivities kick off with a prelude in the historic market town of Assens. On Sunday, July 19, the harbor will be filled with beautiful, historic ships, as well as music, dancing, and fun activities for the whole family. On Monday, July 20, you can witness the grand departure as the ships leave Assens Harbor and set course for Haderslev.
The Historic Market Town, July 18, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Museum WILLEMOES, Østergade 36 & Museum ERNST, Østergade 57
We’ll fill the streets with folk music, fun historical experiences, and contests as Assens gets ready to serve as the starting point for the “Around Funen” race for historic sailing ships.
Come hear the ballad singer perform traditional ballads, and enjoy the entertainment as Skramle and Blæsekonen fill the streets of Willemoesgaarden with music. The gate is open, and when you step into the courtyard, you can wash clothes just as they did in Peter Willemoes’s day. Do you dare go down into the old cellar and get “tattooed” like a real sailor? Be sure to explore the exciting activities both outside and inside the maritime hero’s birthplace.
