The City Archives primarily contain documents relating to the current municipality of Assens, as well as the former municipalities that existed within the current municipality’s geographical area.

A large portion of the municipal records has previously been transferred to the National Archives. These records can be searched in the National Archives’ database,Daisy.

The Assens City Archives shares a reading room with the Assens Local Archives. Our collection has not yet been fully cataloged, but please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the archives' collection.

The Citizen

Under the Archives Act, private individuals may view municipal records that do not contain sensitive personal information once the records are 20 years old. If the records contain sensitive personal information, they are not accessible until 75 years have passed. Sensitive personal information includes, among other things, information about an individual’s finances, health, sexuality, and similar matters.

If you wish to view municipal records less than 75 years old for research purposes—whether for writing a book, an article, or a thesis, or for genealogical research—you must apply for access at the Assens City Archives.

Under the Archives Act, you may also request information about yourself. You may only access records that contain your personal information; you may not access records that contain the personal information of your spouse, siblings, or others.

If you wish to request archival records for use in the reading room, apply for access to archival records less than 75 years old, or request information about yourself, please contact the City Archives by email.

If your email does not contain any sensitive personal information, you can contact the archive atstadsarkiv@assens.dk.

If your email contains personal or sensitive personal information, you must send it via digital mail. You can send a secure email to the Assens City Archives by clickinghere.

The City Archives do not handle requests for access to municipal records; for such requests, you must contact the municipal department where your case was originally processed. You can learn more about access to records at Assens Municipality by clickinghere.
