This fall, Museum Vestfyn will conclude its lecture series “The History of Assens.” In collaboration with the Adult Education Center, Museum Vestfyn has invited the authors of the book *The History of Assens* throughout 2026 to discuss their specific historical topics.
The book was published in 2024 to mark the 500th anniversary of Assens’ status as a market town. In the book, seven experts delve into the history of Assens from ancient times to the present day.
Mogens Kragsig Jensen, research librarian at the University of Southern Denmark Library, will conclude the lecture series with a talk titled “The City of Trade and Industry—1864–1919.”
During this period, Assens experienced both the negative consequences of the loss of the duchies in 1864 and the rapid industrialization of the late 1800s, which included the establishment of a sugar factory, a brewery, and, not least, a railroad connection.
Time: Thursday, November 5, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Location: Assens Toldkammer, Nordre Havnevej 19, 5610 Assens.
Price: 75 DKK.
