Nature, culture, and a cozy get-together every month
On the last Sunday of every month—throughout 2026 (except July and December)—Museum Vestfyn and the Assens Volunteer Center, together with other local organizations, invite you to a pleasant Sunday walk featuring cultural-historical stories, literary passages, and insights into nature.
We want as many people as possible to experience the beautiful natural surroundings and cultural history found throughout the municipality. At the same time, our collaboration with other organizations allows us to enrich the hikes with interesting perspectives and new insights into the many unique places in our municipality.
Unless otherwise noted, the walks take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Just show up wearing weather-appropriate clothing and a big smile—and we’ll provide the experience and coffee.
We look forward to seeing you.

Stories from the Town Around Tommerup Station. Meeting place : Tallerup School. 1:00 p.m.
When Queen Louise’s Railway, which ran between Nyborg and Middelfart, was built across Funen in 1865, it did not extend into the town of Tommerup, even though the town was a relatively large village at the time. The station was built on land belonging to Bågegård, after a watermill on the farm was demolished to make room for the station. However, the station was still named Tommerup Station because Tommerup was the nearest village. Join us on an exciting walk through the station town.

A walk in Knarreborg. Meeting place : Tommerup School, 1:00 p.m.
Why is the station in the village of Tommerup called Knarreborg and not Tommerup?
Tommerup, Knarreborg, Gammel Tommerup, and Tommerup By are place names that refer to what is essentially a contiguous urban settlement. Tommerup’s original farms and houses were concentrated around Kirkebjerg, Bystævnevej, and Smedegyden. To the west lay Grevegården, and where we now find Tommerup Efterskole, there once stood the Knarreborg farm. Hear, among other things, the fascinating stories about the people who lived where the boarding school stands today.
